This is a really fasinating case study in how big tech companies can manipulate consumer choice without technically lying. The fact that Microsoft kept the Classic plans available but only showed them during cancellation is clever psychology - they knew most people wouldn't go through the hassle of canceling just to discover alternatives. It'll be interesting to see how this impacts other companies rolling out mandatory AI upgrades. Transparency should be the baseline, not the exception.

The Australia lawsuit raises important questions about transparency in how tech companies introduce AI features. The "choice architecture" concept is particularly relevent here - Microsoft clearly knew customers would need a decision point, but engineered it to hide the non-AI option. This could set precedent for how bundled AI upgrades are regulated globally.
